ABOUT US

Gateway Community Group proudly works towards its goal of responding to the housing needs of disadvantaged families in the community.

Gateway was initially ecumenical in nature, comprising the local Catholic and Anglican parishes. Later, this was strengthened by the involvement of the Balmoral Uniting Church Community Centre.

Over the years, a small core of volunteers took responsibility for all aspects of the developing service. As the demand for the service grew the need for paid staff became evident and in 1989 the Group employed its first full time Co-Ordinator.

Gateway Community Group is managed by a voluntary Board of Management and provides a range of services to homeless and disadvantaged families in the community.

Gateway provides assistance on the basis of need and without distinction of any kind such as political or religious affliiation, racial or ethnic origin.

The service provides the following assistance and support:

  • Temporary accomodation

  • Referral services

  • Tenancy advice

  • Advocacy

  • Networking with other services

  • Assisting in developing living skills

  • Information on income support, employment and health

  • Community development and capacity building
